A portrait miniature of a gentleman by P. F. Cooper, circa 1845.

A PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF A GENTLEMAN,

BY P.F. COOPER,

SIGNED AND DATED 1845.


     The gentleman, facing right, is wearing a black jacket, white

shirt and black tie.  His dark hair is to his collar with sideburns.

The rectangular is set in a daguarreotype case and is signed on the

reverse "P.F. Cooper 1845".

  

  Dimensions: 1 1/2 inches high.


     Peregrine F. Cooper (fl.1840-90) worked as a miniaturist, animal

painter and pastel portraitist in Philadelphia, exhibiting

occasionally at the Pennsylvania Academy. In 1863 he published "The

Art of Making and Coloring Ivory Types, Photographs, Talbotypes and

Miniature Painting on Ivory".
