A FINE PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF AN OFFICER BY THE ARTIST "V",
CIRCA 1775-1780.
The officer is facing left and wearing a scarlet uniform with blue facings and silver lace, white ruffled shirt and black stock. His powdered wig is 'en queue' and tied with a black bow. The oval miniature is set in a gilt-metal locket frame and is faintly signed
with the letter "V" on the lower right.
Oval, 1 1/2 inches (3.8 cm).
The artist "V" (fl. 1770's) work is well known, but his identity has never been discovered.
