Circa 1750


The enamel box of rectangular form is made in the form of a domed traveler's trunk painted with a design of multiple white firework bursts. The center of the lid contains a label with an inscription in French: Madame, / vous plait-il une / prise. / Saintomer; the interior is painted with a tromp l'oeil scene of tapes holding in a bundle of correspondence, wavy gilt-metal mounts; crazing and small chip to interior of trunk and minor rubbing to gilt on outside edges.
