A Fine Italian Silkwork Picture Depicting Joseph and the child Jesus,
Circa 1730-40.
This lovely silkwork picture depicts two figures in a biblical scene, surrounded by landscape in shades of green and gold.
The background to the right shows a river of white silk, running through a city. The left shows a large tower, possibly an Egyptian Pyramid.
The scene is surrounded by flowered embroidery in silver and gold thread, with gold metal pieces laid on top of each flower. The inner rim is laid with small gold metal pieces, to form a thin band around the scene.
The piece is framed in a shadowbox style with wood framing in excellent condition.
