A Rare Silk and Canvas Picture of a British Ship in American Waters,
Initialed M.C. and dated January 1901
The picture depicts a sail and steam ship created in silk on a painted canvas background. The ship with three funnels and three masts without sails, the funnels belching smoke. The ship is underway from right to left with a sunset in the background. An American flag on the foremast meaning the ship is visiting an American port. The mainmast flies a pennant in red with the letters USM and the mizzenmast a cream flag with a blue bird.
