A Large Continental Marbled Pottery Urn,

Baltic States,

Circa 1790.


Dimensions: 16 3/4 inches x 7 1/2 inches.


The urn painted in a marbled design has a narrow foot siting on a square black pottery base rising to a circular body with applied lion-head masks highlighted in gilt to each side.  A swag band of flowerheads issues from each lion's mouth and encircles the urn.  To the front and back are rectangular gilt moulded plaques of a neoclassical female figure.


The cover sits flat on the top with a gilt wood finial.    There are minor losses to applied work and the cover with old repeared break off/on to one side.
