The Piero Fornasetti porcelain plate in the Astronomici pattern which means Astronomics.  This is a rare pattern in black and white with gold highlights.  


Diameter: 10 inches x 1 inch in height.


Mark: A moon and sun within a circle with smiling faces with scattered stars and the pattern name Astronomici written across edge of circle; above right the Fornasetti hand and brush and Fornasetti. Milano/Made in Italy..

Fornasetti: Designer of Dreams, Patrick Mauries, Page 220, colour illustration of the complete set of twelve, the author writes, Astronomical Plates, a set of twelve made in 1955.  Fornasetti looked at astronomy in 17th-century terms when it was not distinguished from astrology.
