
Fine British Sailor's Woolwork of The MaryAnn,
Circa 1870-80
Wonderful example of the sailor's art. A large "painterly" woolwork picture of a portside view of the ship named the Maryann under full sail coming into land. A small town can be seen on the sure. Above the town is an observation tower and a flagpole flying the Union Jack.
Other ships are depicted. In the foreground is a side-wheeler with steam issuing from its two funnels. Beyond the Maryann can be seen a partial view of anther three-masted ship while to the left foreground is a small two-masted ship.
Dimensions: Framed: 41 inches x 30 inches x 2 inches deep (105cm x 77cm x 5cm); (sight: 84 x 54cm).
