Circa 1870.


The sailor's woolie or woolwork depicts a portside view of a Royal Navy frigate or sixth rate. Eleven gun ports are visible on the side.  The ship is square-rigged with trapunto sails and is shown in rough weather with white spray at the bow and a beautifully rendered sea of multiple blues and white almost creating a checkerboard effect.


Dimensions: 23 inches high x 29 inches wide.
