Lead-glazed Earthenware Model of a Doe, Ralph Wood Type

Lead-glazed Earthenware Model Figure of A Doe,

Circa 1785,

Perhaps John Wood of Brownhills or Ralph & Enoch Wood of Burslem,

The pearlware figure of a hind is press-moulded and sits on a domed hollow mould with clay threads imitating grass.  The figure is painted naturalistically with coloured glazes.

Dimensions: 5 inches high x 6 inches long x 3 inches deep.

The author below has suggested that the model was most likely based on porcelain examples from the Bow factory.

Reference: The Henry H. Weldon Collection-English Pottery, Stoneware and Earthenware 1650-1800,  page 373, # 226 for this model of a hind.
