English Delftware Dish with Heron,

London or Liverpool,

Circa 1740-50.


The light underglaze large delftware blue dish depicts a crested heron standing on one leg in the centre of the dish on a grassy mound with flowering plants to either side.  The border with four flowering stems with stylized insects between.


Dimensions: 13 1/2 inch diameter


Condition: Hairline & glaze losses and  typical chips.


Reference: English Delftware in the Bristol Collection, Frank Britton, Page 223, # 14.14 for another crested heron described as perhaps London.
