Sailor's Large Woolwork Woolie of Three Royal Navy Ships with Trapunto Sails, Circa 1865-75.

Sailor's Large Woolwork Woolie of Three Royal Navy Ships with Trapunto Sails,

Circa 1865-75.

The sailor's wool picture, known as a woolie, is of an unusually large size.  It dramatically depicts three Royal Navy ships-of-the-line sailing in line, led by a First Rate, followed by a Second Rate and then a Fifth Rate frigate on a calm sea, each ship flying the white ensign.  All the ships with Trapunto sails which gives them a puffed three-dimensional look so they appear as if they are being blown vigorously by the wind.

Dimensions: 24 3/4 inches high x 37 3/8 inches
