The sampler has 3 styles of the alphabet, 2 having a missing letter. Numbers 1-9.


The lower section Reads: Eveline Freeman Wheeler August 19, 1824 Age 9. Morristown Love Peace.


The top center has a nest with baby birds being fed by their mother. There are vines along the side and a woman with her long blue dress and a parasol on one side. The other side has a period dressed man with a beard. The lower section shows a large building or possibly a stately home with trees.


Formerly in the Theodore Kapneck Collection, Exhibited at the Museum of American Folk Art, October 31-January 7, 1978. (The sampler is mentioned in Clarion, America's Folk Art Magazine, Page 20.)


The sampler is referred to as from Morristown, NJ but in fact in is Morristown, VT.  Eveline was born Jan 9 1815 to Phillip and Polly Wheeler in Elmore Twp., Lamoille, Vermont.She married a Samuel P. Cook on Oct. 28, 1835 in Morristown, Lamoille, Vt.
